Quiet Artistry: Inside the Thoughtful Design of Hinkler House
Some homes have a quiet magic about them, and Hinkler House is one of those spaces. Imagined and executed by its owner and interior designer, Toneya Tangas, in collaboration with Studio Griffiths, it has been thoughtfully reshaped into a warm, connected family retreat.
Every decision—whether big or small—has been guided by the desire to create a home focused on sharing moments and creating memories. With builder GRN Built and landscape designer Blac Design, Toneya’s vision came to life, bringing both comfort and elegance into perfect harmony.
Thoughtful Design, Rooted in Connection
For Toneya, the idea was simple but powerful: create a place that encourages connection. This approach began in the kitchen—the beating heart of the home. The kitchen isn't just functional, it’s the space where everyone naturally gathers.
The showpiece? A beautiful slab of Arabescato Rosso marble, sourced from Signorino, chosen not for its grandeur but for the warmth it brings into the space. The swirling earthy hues of the stone weave seamlessly into the home's palette, balancing texture and tone to create an environment that feels grounded and welcoming.
Soft Lines, Subtle Impact
Throughout the home, the design leans into softness—deliberate, curved details that bring a relaxed feel. From the rounded edges of the kitchen island to the bespoke cabinetry, everything flows naturally.
This isn’t a space designed to be admired from afar; it’s meant to be lived in. The subtle curves encourage movement, creating a sense of ease and calm. There’s no formality here—just thoughtful design that invites you to settle in and stay awhile.
Texture That Speaks Without Shouting
What sets Hinkler House apart is the way materials are layered to create depth. Nothing feels forced. The textures are chosen for how they feel as much as how they look. Timber, stone, and fabric are blended in a way that adds character without overwhelming the space.
The bathroom is a perfect example: natural stone walls paired with muted, earthy tones. It feels private and calming, with every surface chosen to add to the sense of tranquillity.
A Seamless Connection to Nature
Blac Design’s work on the outdoor spaces enhances the natural flow of the home. The transition between indoors and out feels effortless. Radar’s landscaping introduces thoughtful greenery that mirrors the calm of the interiors, creating outdoor spaces that feel just as considered as the rooms inside. The outdoor areas aren’t an afterthought—they’re a continuation of the home’s story, encouraging you to step outside and enjoy the fresh air in spaces that feel just as welcoming.
A Home with Meaning
At its core, Hinkler House is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating a space that reflects the people who live there. Toneya’s eye for detail, her respect for craftsmanship, and her love for pieces with a story have shaped every room.
The home is filled with meaningful elements, from local Australian-made furniture to carefully selected artwork that adds personality without pretension. There’s no excess, no noise—just a home where everything has its place, and every corner feels intentional
