The Insta-Worthy Muuto Pendants That Get To Live In Our Head Rent Free
Characterised by their recognisable aesthetic and expert craftsmanship, Muuto is a design house leading the way in Scandinavian lighting. And though their collection is vast, we’ve done our best to pick five of our favourite pieces. Discover more below.
We LOVE lamp. We LOVE Muuto. The two combined... well, it's a no brainer - LOVE to the power of two. That's a whole lotta love, and we're here to share that love with you, design fam. Muuto is well known for their fun and unique approach to design. Always minimalist, but never boring, the brand is an expert at refinement, always seeking that point between too much and too little. They're the Goldilocks of the design world, forever chasing what is 'just right'.
You'll discover this as you make your way through our curation of Muuto lighting pieces below. It was quite the conundrum deciding on our favourite five, but it was an exercise we were more than happy to undertake. So, let's get started by kicking things off with the...
Rime Pendant
Elegant and supremely sophisticated, the Rime pendant is a fresh take on your typical globe. By sandblasting the glass that forms its silhouette, a semi-transparent film is formed, allowing for a glorious, ooey-gooey glow when switched on. We know you love that ooey-gooey.
The beauty of the Rime is in its simplicity. It’s expression is strong enough to be hung on its own, providing a statement-making piece above dining tables or centred in a living space. Alternatively, they can be hung together without causing visual clutter. Just thinking about a cluster of Rime pendants in a stairwell gives us the good kind of goosebumps.
Strand Pendant
When Muuto released their Strand collection, we were totally blown away. As was the design-loving Designstuff community. Collecting thousands of likes and plenty of heart-eye emoji comments, this modern take on the classic paper lantern is something that can only be described as truly beautiful.
Similar to the Rime pendant, the beauty of the Strand range lies in its simplicity. Made from a cocoon like material, sprayed onto a voluminous frame, each pendant has a cloud-like and ethereal feel. We love seeing a mixture of different sized Strand pendants hung together in a cluster, but also feel they look beautiful hanging solo.
Tip Lamp
Hands down, the best desk lamp on the market. Big call, we know, but we totally stand by it. Conjuring memories of childhood task lamps, its nostalgic shape and minimalist silhouette takes us back to a simpler time, when learning our multiplication tables was one of the few stresses impacting our lives.
The Tip provides both direct like for working, and ambient light for creating mood. It has a fully adjustable head and arm, dimmer, and opal glass diffuser – a true one-of-a-kind specimen.
Under The Bell Pendant
You’d never guess the Under The Bell was partly made from recycled plastic fibres. With the appearance of felted wool, this generously oversized half-dome is an absolute spectacle in real life! Aside from providing a glorious downwards directed glow, the pendant is fantastic for acoustics too through its soft shade.
If hanging an Under The Bell in your own home, it’s important to consider its absolutely enormous size – the largest is 82cm in diameter. Best hung solo in a space that can cater for its vastness; rooms with high ceilings, like dining and living spaces, are the perfect candidate.
Ambit Pendant
Easily Muuto’s most recognisable pendant, the Ambit is a true design classic. It’s the light that, no matter the context, always works. Bedside, in a cluster, above a dining table, or tucked away in a reading nook, its unpretentious and well-thought-out design makes it a real winner.
The Ambit comes in various sizes and colours, and can even be purchased in a 3-unit rail (which looks AH-MUH-ZING in a corporate office setting.) Constructed from hand-spun aluminium, followed up with a hand-painted finish, its a pendant that speaks volumes about its owners taste in good design.
